The online application is designed for one person. You must complete a new application for each person applying. You may also go to our GCMI webpage for detailed plan information.
Q: Why would I need this plan over another type of plan?
A: The GCMI plan is designed specially for individual professional marine crewmembers of all nationalities. You must currently or usually work aboard a vessel as a full-time seagoing crewmember, expect to spend a significant period of time sailing outside of United States waters, and not qualify for adequate coverage under a US domestic insurance plan. You will be asked on the application to state that your permanent residence is on board your Vessel, which needs to be outside the US waters most of the time. For example, you cannot be a US citizen and live on your boat which is mainly just anchored in Fort Lauderdale, Fl or any other US port on a continuous basis. Contact us for further details.
Q: After applying, how long will it take to get approved?
A: Generally, you are approved within 5 to 7 business days from the date the application is received. You will receive your policy in the mail within 2-3 weeks from the date of approval unless you agree to pay an additional charge for overnight delivery, which will get the policy information to you much sooner.
